HBO Storybook Musicals

Famous Hollywood celebs provide the voices for this half-hour series of cartoon musicals, based on children's songs, stories, and fables. Four different animation houses produced the series for HBO. Michael Sporn, Oscar and Emmy award winning animator, began the series in 1987 with the Oscar-winning short Lyle, Lyle Crocodile: The Musical: The House on 88th St.  His effort was followed a year later by DIC's Emmy nominated special Madeline, based on the children's book character. Sporn's animation company produced six more episodes for HBO. In 1989, he produced The Story of the Dancing Frog, based on Quentin Blake's book.
All other shorts were released between 1990 and 1993 and include: Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (1990), Ira Sleeps Over (1991), The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1991), The Real Story of... Series (1991).
