Just a reminder Icemage: Filmation actually came up with the idea for Ghostbusters first.
Filmation had a live action show called Ghostbusters in the 70's. When the movie came Filmation tried to press charges for copyright infringemnet but found that althougth they held the copyright on the show itself, they did not have the title "Ghostbusters" trademarked. The movie's concept was different enough warent no plagerisim and was allowed to go.
Filmation then gave the greenlight to an idea that had already been floating around the studio. A new cartoon based off the old show Ghostbusters. The realm of animation opend up new possibilities that couldn't be done in a live action show (espceially back then)
With the success of the movie Columbia decided to make an animated series followup but discovered that Filmation already had a Ghsotbusters cartoon so they named thiers "The Real Ghostbusters" in a sort of mockery. But the fact remains Filmation had the idea first.
That's not to say Filmation was better. Personally I like both shows but I must say "The Real Ghostbusters" is undeniably more action packed.
It's nice to see the show get a dvd release but season sets would be better. maybe we'll get them still. They could be testing the market to see if the demand for this show is really high enough. (That's what happened with Fraggle Rock)

Oooh, nice history! Thanks, MacGuyver! I knew Filmation held the rights to the Ghostbusters in some way shape or form, but didn't know the whole story behind it. Be that as it may, I really prefer the one based on the movie - better characterization, better artwork, better dialogue.

Not a lot of details on this yet, just that it's going to be a multi-disc set. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let it finally be porper season sets...this series is sooooo overdue for the deluxe DVD treatment!
They wonder why the other 3 volumes didn't sell well? Oh I dunno, maybe because all the episodes on them have been released a bajillion times before on VHS!!! Let's hope they finally do it RIGHT this time...
Oh, and the game is looking AWESOME so far!

This sounds great - 1 completed boxset straight off the bat doesn't happen too often!
Hope region 2 eventually gets the same treatment!

Just saw another update on The Real Ghostbusters today.
Check it out-
http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Real-Ghostbusters-Details-Confirmed/10021
The DVD set is confirmed to be coming this fall and Andy Mangels is onboard to help with extras- he did the extras for sets like Bravestarr and Dungeons & Dragons, amongst others, so you know this release will be packed with some good stuff.

Okay, the DVD set is now up for pre-orders online!
And you can check out the nice list of extras coming with it here-

Look for it releasing on Nov. 15- but remember, at least for now, it's only available through ordering from Time-Life.
