|

I´m not looking for anything special right now, but I have always thought they would be very interesting protagonist in any cartoon.
I tried to do a little research myself, but I ALWAYS end up watching some educational/fan shorts or... some episodes of Dora the Explorer (which seems to have a Fox as the antagonist -seriously, what the heck Youtube?-).
If you happen to know any of these, please don't hesitate in share the info with moi Also, if there´s a female protagonist, that would be a lot better.
Thanks in advance, my friends.
(I know, I look for the weirdest things xD).

Thanks man! That first suggestion looks very interesting.
On a side note: Many of my searches involving the word "vixen" ended up badly. Looks like Google has some twisted sense of humor (in fact, It made me believe it was a curse word for a while).
I owe you one (and the same goes for you, SharpFork).

when searching for a subject using fox-like or feline
keywords, you've got to remember to turn on the family filter

Also, in the movie Mary Poppins, when they jump into the sidewalk chalk drawings, there is an animated fox in there. They are riding the merry-go-round horses and save the fox from some hunting hounds._________________

There's also Brer Fox in Disney's 1946 movie classic, "Song of the South". |
Thanks Mac, I´m a big fan of "The Fox and the Hound" (and I´m still looking for the book). I´ll check the other one out, though. | Good luck with Song of the South. I don't think Disney has EVER released it on DVD. Maybe VHS but you'll have to find it, if you can. The movie is considered to have racist overtones. |
Ya know? I have heard that the movie is racist so many times that I´m actually really curious about it right now. I´ll have to search high and low for a copy (but I´m sure it should be hosted somewhere online), but If I actually happen to find one, I´ll let you know, guys
And also thank you for the hint about the other movie.
EDIT: Ok, Wikipedia says you were right all along. The movie is not available worldwide... but it also says that, outside the US, it was on sale for a while (even in Spain, which makes it perfect for me).

What's kind of messed up is Disney has released Der Fuehrer's Face (which was a WWII propaganda film) but seems reluctant to release Song of the South._________________

The thing with "Song of the South" is that you have to remember the time the book was written and the time the movie was made. Keep it in historical context; no, that doesn't mean slavery and/or racism is right- but it does mean racist overtones can be understandable because unfortunately that's where a lot of America was at the time. It's a horrible and deplorable part of history- but it is history. And we have to know history to learn from it- even the bad stuff.
However, "Song of the South" was released to VHS and LaserDisc in the UK (at least the VHS was) and Asia (I know there's a Japanese LaserDisc).
See www.songofthesouth.net for much more on this.

The thing too is that because when you do find it it has never been given a proper restoration, it it very washed out and overly dark. Except during the animated segments, they are bright, clear and almost jarring after watching the poor live action portions. Plus Brier Fox is definitely an antagonist to Brier Rabbit, and even Brier Bear.
If you haven't watched The Fantastic Mr. Fox yet, do so asap! It is great! Also Robin Hood is wonderful. There is also the classic 1943 Chicken Little short by Disney with pretty dark undertones that has Foxy Loxy as a very clever antagonist.
Kitsune, Japanese for fox, are in Pom Poko occasionally, by Studio Ghibli. Also Inu Yasha has a little friend whom is a fox, Shippō. You also get to meet Shippō's brothers within the series. In the cartoon and manga series, Love Hina, a girl goes by the name of Kitsune, because of her fox like features, and looking...well...pretty foxy in other ways!
Really, search for kitsune in anime and you may be overwhelmed at how many there are!_________________ Support the EFF and their efforts to protect everyone's digital rights!

Thanks man, I will check them all out.
But now I'm SO hopelessly hooked up with StrayDog´s suggestion: Hugo and Rita.
In fact, I just found many episodes of that cartoon within the related search feature on YT. Not spanish or english I´m afraid, but the majority of them had been fan-subbed really nicely, so that´s not a problem (except for the fact that sometimes, the subs flash on screen at speed of light ).
As for The Fantastic Mr Fox... I´ve been dodging it for no reason for quite some time now. I don´t know, it doesn't call my attention. But I´ll give it a go, all my experience prior to this moment tells me that, unless I have a REAL reason for not watching something, I was really just wasting time
Now, what I really wanna know it´s... what kind of conspiracy made every female animal character that I like be named "Rita". It can´t be a coincidence !
Oh, and BTW: Jackpot! Now I owe one to everyone in this forum. Hurray

Rita the cat of Animaniacs
Rita the fox...
Two of the most well known actresses of the age of musicals
were both named Rita.
Rita Moreno and Rita Hayworth
Maybe the name became associated with a theatrical
type personality.
Just a guess

And to add to the fox overload, you can't forget to watch 20th. Century Fox films, FOX TV station, FOX News (though I suggest adding in MSNBC and CNN for a proper balance ), definitely's "Fox's Peter Pan & The Pirates", Aesop's Fable of The Fox and the Sour Grapes and of course- after keeping up with all those foxes, you should be able to answer this musical question- What Does The Fox Say?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE
And here's some Biblical inspiration for your quest:
"Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards,
our vineyards that are in bloom." (Song of Songs [AKA Song of Solomon] 2:15)
