I'm not a 100% sure that is an 80's cartoon, but this is very possible. Unfortunately the only thing I remember is the first scene from intro: A pleasant old man with grey hair opens a small wooden door, like a treehouse or something, and many little cute creatures come out in the forest, they may be rabbits or something, I'm not sure. I've searched a lot but couldn't find it. Does anybody know?

Maybe,..

The Sylvanian Families (87)

Dreaming children visit kind Mr. Woodkeeper and become tiny.
He sends the children to a village of animals who live like humans.
The little animals then help the children with their problems.

No, unfortunately Sad I had already checked this, it's similar but not what I'm looking for. The scene I remember is the first intro scene and this old man opens the little door for the cute creatures, no children are involved. Thanks for your reply anyway!

I am probably way off, but is it Fraggle Rock?

They did a cartoon and puppet series. Most people know Fraggle Rock pretty well, but on the off chance I thought I'd throw it out there.

Good luck!

Where did you see this cartoon?
I'd mention Mapletown if I wasn't
sure you hadn't seen it already in your
search. The Sylvanian Family & Maple Town
are similar. Look for one and you'll usually find both

I'm a big Muppets fan and fan of Jim Henson's work in general. So I had to comment on someone mentioning Fraggle Rock! LOVE that series! However, the "old man" in question for this show, Doc, is indeed present at the start of the opening credits- but he doesn't open a door to the Fraggles' world. The camera zooms in past him and Sprocket to a hole in the wall that leads to Fraggle Rock.
The credits for the cartoon series are quite similar; the only real big difference is that Gobo is seen grabbing a letter from his Uncle Travelling Matt and then gets chased by Sprocket back down the hole to Fraggle Rock.
It's definitely worth mentioning- could be it. Both the puppet and cartoon series are great shows in any case. Very Happy Cool

You're right Straydog, it isn't Mapletown either. Both Mapletown and Sylvanian Families were the first I had checked, knowing that they're very similar to each other. And it isn't Fraggle Rock either, because as MacGyver said, the old man doesn't open a door. Afterall, the old man I'm looking for is an animation figure. I remember watching this cartoon in early 90's on TV, but I don't remember anything else, just this first intro scene.
