In 1983, a cartoon called Saturday Supercade ran on CBS for a while, showing episodes of cartoons based on popular video games- Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Frogger, Pitfall!, Kangaroo, Space Ace and Q-Bert.
Now Warner Archive is releasing a "Best Of" DVD set for Q-Bert! 17 of the 19 episodes produced will be on this set. (It looks like rights could not be obtained for the 2 missing episodes.)
It releases on November 3rd. Very Happy Cool
Check out the cover art and more details at the link below.

I'm super confused by this... first off, freaking Q-Bert had a cartoon???? Laughing Second, how is exactly a "best of" DVD if 80% of the material made it to the final cut? Wouldn't have made more sense to include all episodes and call it a day? Stuff like that brings me infinite joy Razz

From what I understand, there are some complicated rights involved with that release because some of the rights have reverted to the video game creators. And yes- believe it or not, Q-Bert had a cartoon series in the '80s. Of course, so did Rubik, The Amazing Cube for that matter. lol - it seems just about anything could get a cartoon series at that time. Laughing

Ok, thanks a lot for the information regarding rights. Always an interesting topic Smile

And yeah, it does seem like anything and anyone could get a cartoon series made out of. What a wonderful time to be alive that must have been Smile!

But hey, Rubik is overflowing with potential to be made into a cartoon character Razz

I wonder what two episodes are missing? I have 9 episodes that came directly from someone involved with the production of the series and they are fully remastered. Would be nice if I have the missing episodes!

As near as I can tell, "Q*Beat It" seems to be one, due to Q*Bert's rendition of Michael Jackson's classic "Beat It" song.

I haven't bought the dvd myself yet but according to lostmediawiki
Game Shoe Woe and Q*Beat It didn't get released.
Would be pretty cool if you have those two missing episodes.
Just wondering the 9 episodes you got from someone involved in the production do the include the bumpers ?

No problem i'm happy too share what I know. I'm planning on getting the DVD myself soon so i'll be sure to double check but most likely the information from lostmediawiki is correct.

Lets hope the other Supercade cartoons also get a DVD release soon.
Been trying to find the compleet series for 12 years now haha.
I especially want the Pitfall and Donkey Kong cartoons the are great to watch and my nephew loves them.

Ace and Kim try to keep his 'wimping' situation secret and pretend that Dexter is Kim's little brother.
Again, as with Donkey Kong, Ruby-Spears took artistic license; in the video game, Dexter had certain chances to revert to Ace, his full-grown self, whereas in the cartoon the Ace/Dexter phases seemed to happen on their own and at often inconvenient times for the hero.
