Here's the version of X-Men from the 80s, which I liked better than the 90s version:

In addition to having better music and styling, this version was also less angst-filled and less morose.

I couldn't agree more. Thank God they finally put them all out on DVD.
The other version from the late 90s never did anything for me.

Which X-Men series are you talking about? I love the early '90s X-Men cartoon- great show and great theme song!
However, I also enjoyed X-Men: Evolution that came toward the end of the century/start of the new millennium. It is kind of similar to Smallville in its reimagining of things, but I actually enjoyed it pretty well in spite of that.

I seem to recall the 1st X-Men series ran somewhere around '92-'96. X-Men Evolution came in the late 90s.
It would be great if they started over and made a cartoon that stayed true to the comic book continuity starting w/ the original 6 (Xavier, Jean, Cyclops, Beast, Angel and Ice Man) in high school. Then, maybe jump forward to the 80s w/ the addition of Storm, Collosus, Night Crawler and Wolverine. They could cover the very best story lines like the 1st series tried to do.
It doesn't work out when they mix things up.
