dog with wiley independent nose

how bout this one: a boy and a girl jump through geometrically shaped portals leading to other realms, usually in chase of their dog, who is chasing his nose, which has jumped from his face in hot pursuit of a very exciting scent.
-i think it was in episodes (one featured a "ghost ship" full of ghosts)
-though i watched it in the eighties, it could be older
-had very simple animation (almost like 'the point,' i want to say...)

any guesses????
