this is my first time posting. I am trying to remember a favorite cartoon of my youth. it was about a team that would defend the earth against attackers from space. their spaceship was kept in the ocean and the intro always had the ship rising from underwater and taking off from the planet. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can think of at least two teams
who launched their ship from underwater

This team mainly fought a team of
bionic/mutated humans though, not aliens

Bionic 6

Bionic1 was an agent in the near future with bionic enhancements. His wife and family(consisting of four adopted children) were all severely injured in an avalanche and exposed to alien radiation from a strange ship that had been discovered nearby. The accident left them all in a coma. His entire family clung to life and their only hope was to undergo the same bionic enhancement. Each came through the bionic process with a specialized skill as well as the super physical abilities-Mother1-psychic/telekinetic abilities. Karate1-martial arts, IQ-enhanced intelligence, Rock1-sonic attacks, Sport1-attacked primarily with baseball bat swung with his bionic strength

Thier main enemies were the mad doctor Scarab, the brother of the creator of the bionic process, the ambitious second in command Glove, Klunk, Madamme O, Chopper, and Mechanic. Scarab created a bionic team of villians with less than ideal results. The subjects were given enhanced strength, but each one of them came through with some degree of deformity.

Battle of the Planets (78)
a.k.a. Gatchaman
a.k.a. G-Force
a.k.a. Eagle Riders

Five young heroes Leader Mark (a.k.a. Ken), Hot headed Marksman-Jason (a.k.a. Joe), the muscle of the team and pilot-Tiny (a.k.a. Ryu), agile timed explosives expert and Mark's mild love interest Princess (June), and bio-engineered boy-Keyop (a.k.a. Jin-pei) form a superskilled strike team whose mission was to defend the Earth and allied planets from Spectra's evil forces led by Zoltar.

None of the team fought with a staff though. Mark had two boomerang type blades. Jason had a pistol. Princess had an exploding yo-yo. Keyop had a bolo, and Tiny fought with his hands.

Each episode Spectra would send a giant robotic monster to lay waste to a city to prepare it for conquest, and G-Force would be sent from their crescent shaped island secret base to meet the challenge. Each would arrive driving their own vehicle that would attach to the main ship
Mark the leader had a plane. Jason the second in command had a formula one car. Princess had the motorcycle, Keyops had some sort of submersible crawler, and Tiny flew the main ship launch from the island's
lagoon.
Vehicles

When the team was outnumbered in hand to hand combat they could form a pyramid(cheerleader style) and twirl until they created a whirlwind. The raging whirlwind would knock anything flat within range.
When they were in a dire situation while in their ship the Phoenix, their last resort would be the Firey Phoenix. They'd push the ship's fusion engines past their breaking point and the entire ship would transform into an invincible fiery bird made of plasma.
