Here's an 80's series with a large space fleet
StarCom (87)
began with a a group of military space-pilots being scrambled by an alert. They all reach the launch bay and take off from the space station into the void to battle the enemy.

Since you belive it's an 80's
cartoon Ill assume it wasn't
a CG animation like the 2 other
shows
-other show with a vaguely Battlestar Galactica
type premise-
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
has a calm orchestral type theme
but I havent seen any evidence that
it was aired in a US market
more recent
Wing Commander
was it anime or US/Europe stytled cartoon?

I was thinking American style but it could have at least been influenced by Anime.
Does anyone know how I can search past schedules from specific TV stations? or are most not available??
Don't worry too much about it, its possible that the theme song was some 60's hippy tune also (still classically themed) , there seems to be a song I hear on the radio once in a while that reminds me of the cartoon.
I am presuming 80's because I was seeing it in syndication 1995-96

I don't know how you're local library system is
set up, but if you're lucky you might be able to
find an online version of that newspaper in their
archives or if you really need to find it, you might
check the microfilm files at the library personally.
just a thought

Right after beast wars and reboot eh? For a US station it sure is showing a lot of Canadian stuff. And how come you get good shows in the morning? We get like...Bear in the Big Blue House. Bah!
I'm going to throw Shadow Raiders out there. It doesn't really fit into your 80s cartoon as its....CGI. But! it is done by Mainframe Entertainment (Rainmaker now) just like the other 2 shows. It also has a sorta a BSG similarity. The theme song is pretty not sure i'd call it chamber music but it has like a flute in it...

Thats a great idea, I will look into that next time I am in that area!
Yeah, I was late for work everyday because I was supposed to start at 9AM but had to watch the end of reboot so didn't leave the house till 9.. lol
Shadow Raiders, wow I have never seen that but it looks good, kind of like reboot out of the box - lol
Not Robotech, but thx anyways!
Thanks for all your efforts! I will check back every now and again to see if anyone figures it out for me and will let you all know if I get it.
