I'm trying to find the name of a cartoon that I think was in the 80's. It may have started in late 70's.

It was a huge yellow and red robot that was kept in a mountain and a kid would climb into it and pilot it from the head of the robot. I think it had a lightening bolt on the chest of the robot.

It was a western style cartoon. It wasn't Japanese.

Power Rangers is not a cartoon.

However even though he said it wasn't the OP may be referring to a Japanese cartoon, by the name of Mazinger Z/Tranzor Z.
