Note I said EPISODES. BCI is planning to release a DVD full 50 Animated All Stars cartoons- including episodes of "Defenders of the Earth"! Hopefully season sets on DVD will follow.

AWESOME news!!!
Defenders of the Earth is definitely coming to DVD!!!!!!!!!!
Look for Volume One on DVD, containing the first 33 episodes, out on October 10!!!!!!!!!!  
(The price'll probably be about 40 bucks)
This cartoon featured the adventures of Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician and Lothar, as well as their 4 kids and pets.
This was a really fun cartoon I remember watching as a kid- if you haven't seen it, I suggest checking it out!
Check out all the extras coming with this set- interviews, scripts, storyboards, commentaries- all kinds of stuff

Ah sweet I remember Defenders on the Earth now.
Who were the main charectors? I remember there being:
Flash Gordon
The Phantom
A magician bloke
and they are all were fighting Ming.

Yeah, Ming the Merciless was the main bad guy- I believe he's Flash Gordon's main archrival, as seen in the 1980 "Flash Gordon" movie.
So there's Flash Gordon and The Phantom is also on board, as well as Mandrake the Magician and strongman Lothar. Their kids also join them, so altogether it's eight of them I believe.

I can pretty much promise that there will be no special features and that the packaging will be sub-standard. These Mill Creek re-issues are all done on the super cheap so the DVDs will be packaged in paper sleeves that will stack and sort of snap into one side of the clam shell case.
At least it's coming back out and they will be cheap. Mill Creek is releasing more or less most of the stuff that BCI Eclipse released previously (Dungeons and Dragons, Prince Valiant, Mike Young He-Man), though so far none of it has been the Filmation stuff. |
