Hello! This has driven me nuts for a few decades now on and off.

I think I only saw a couple of episodes, it never was on at the right time.

I think it was on HBO or cable.

It was a team of "coast guard" types with starships they would use to rescue people and sometimes fight some terrorists. One episode was about a massive starship that would run people and cargo from Earth to the other planets. It was so large that it could not land and large aircraft would dock with it. Terrorists blew a hole in it and they had to rescue all the people off of it. The other episode was about an alien artifact they found that would transform itself based on the thoughts of someone nearby. When someone with a grudge came near it, it launched missiles at a nearby colony on a moon.

There was a background storyline about a terrorist organization looking to break away from Earth based in the asteroid belt.

Please help! Thanks!

Terrorist organizations always makes me think of G.I. Joe but I'm pretty sure that isn't it.
Another possibility that comes to mind is Spiral Zone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiral_Zone)

That's just a guess and may be totally off, but maybe someone else will have a better idea on this one.

That's it! Thanks. I remember it was a different kind of show, not so much direct combat, more of a thinking show. I was going to say it reminded me of the rescue show with the puppets, now I know why... Smile
