i would appreciate it so much if someone could identify this cartoon movie:

the cartoon appeared irregularly on hbo between 1981 to 1986.

if i recall correctly it was claymation or stop motion.

the story was of a man who played a jaw harp, lived in the south on a farm, and entered his car into a dirt track race. the car had a secret part under the dash that made it go super fast. the man also had a navigator for the race that was either a raccoon or a possum.

the night before the race, the main adversary sabotages the special part in the man's race car. i believe the adversary sends a weasel to do the damage.

as the race ensues the man struggles to get the part working again. the part sparks & emits all kinds of colors. he finally gets the part to work and ends up winning the race.

thanks for trying to help !!!

Except for the claymation or stop motion part, I'd be inclined to think it could be an episode of "The Dukes"- the early '80s cartoon series based on "The Dukes of Hazzard" - but I don't think that's what you're looking for...

Possibly the Norwegian stop-motion
feature animation,...

Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (75)
a.k.a. Flåklypa Grand Prix

STRAYDOG- YOU ARE A GENIUS !!!

i tried combing through various 80's hbo guides as i could find them...
vaguely recalling the title had rally, or race in it... ( but not grand prix)
i also was considering including the description of the adversary as i remembered him.. a wiry man with dark eyebrows & a mustache who had something to do with oil sales... low & behold there he was.

it's amazing how memories can be close to the original version, but change things to match our cultural perception.... for example, my interpretation of the animals.

what clinched it for me was the car, the cutting of the part in the video clip that i found on youtube, and the peeling asphalt as the car rockets off the starting line: http://www.youtube.com/user/mariocaprino

now i'm seeing there was a real life replica of the car made in europe.
incredible !!!!

you have definitely helped reconnect me with a bit of my childhood summers. in which my younger brother and i would be mesmerized by this awesomely detailed & richly colored movie.

i'm not sure if this forum has a donation box, but i'd love to support it so that it stays alive, and many more young at heart adults are reunited with their childhood memories.

now i've got to buy dvd's of the movie in english, send a copy to my brother, and live happily ever after.

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!

STRAYDOG... THANK YOU AGAIN !!!!

i just ordered 2 copies from the original production company's website.

apparently the film was part of a larger collection by a famous european animator.

the company has since reformatted all the films, including pinchcliffe grand prix into 16:9. absolutely awesome !!!!!

Yeah the Norwegian stop-motion, that's the one! I'm surprised they still sell it it's so old.
