What's everyones top animated shows of the 80's?

She-Ra. (That's right, i watched it not only for He-Man and friends as guest stars, or that badass Hordak guy whom i had the toys to especially his troops, but i had such a major crush on Adora and some of the other girls on the show)

Rescue Rangers.
Inspector Gadget.
Dungeons and Dragons.
Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
The Incredible Hulk.
Ruby-Spear's Superman.
Voltron.
Robotech.
Gummi Bears.
Danger Mouse.
Duckula.
The Smurfs.
The Raccoons.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

That's a tough one. For overall quality in terms of stories, acting and animation I think I'd have to go with Gummi Bears and Ducktales.

For voice acting I'm partial to all of the Sunbow shows like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Jem. Michael Bell, Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are just the bee's knees.

Animation-wise I really dig Filmation stuff, especially She-Ra and Bravestarr, because it has a consistent quality and even though the studio employed some limited animation and repeated sequence techniques it really works for me. Also, even though it was style-wise unintentional, I love the quick sketchy nature of the Bravestarr cartoon as it lends a lot of energy to the characters and works in that futuristic dust bowl world it's set in.

Story-wise I was a pretty big fan of the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon (Michael Reaves did some wonderful scripts for that series), and I have to admit that I got sucked into the soap opera-ness of the American re-dub edit of the Robotech series.

Conceptually I really like the Spiral Zone and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors because they really are unlike any other cartoon series and get into some trippy territory. I also have a soft place in my heart for the vehicle/mask gimmick in M.A.S.K.

Character-wise, I'd have to say the Rankin/Bass selections, in particular Thundercats and Silverhawks because their villains are just insane and fun. I never got a chance to see Tigersharks so I'm not sure how the villains play out in that one.

TigerSharks is a great cartoon! It's fairly similar to the ThunderCats and SilverHawks cartoons- same kind of great villian/underling interaction like with Mon-Star and Yesman or Mumm-ra and Sslithe, etc.

Oh, man, there are so many that have the kind of strong characters and strange, cheerfully subversive plots that draw me to the 'toons of this particular era. In fact, if J. Michael Straczynski, Christy Marx, Michael Reaves, Buzz Dixon, Flint Dille, Mark Evanier, or Larry DiTillio worked on it, there's a 99.9% chance I love it. I also agree the presence of Frank Welker, Michael Bell, Peter Cullen, and the late Chris Latta makes an instant winner. So, there's...

He-Man and She-Ra. They've got a rare dichotomy; both are excellent on their own, and can be watched seperately without losing anything, but they become even better together. The differences between Eternia and Etheria contrast perfectly, as do their respective guardians.

The Sunbowverse (Transformers, G.I. Joe, Jem, and Inhumanoids): These shows managed to make coherent stories set in a universe with truly expansive casts and intricate histories, making everything seem like part of a huge, ongoing tale. Their willingness to take chances with truly bizarre premises also struck gold far more often than it struck out.

The Real Ghostbusters: It's its own thing without deviating too much from the film, and it had a great range; it could be scary, funny, action-oriented, and even sweet. Of all the heroes of the eighties, the Ghostbusters were the ones I could most identify with.

Dungeons and Dragons: The thing I liked most about D&D when I was younger was that it didn't pull punches; when the kids were in danger, they were really in danger. Venger was genuinely intimidating and was after them for a reason. Great fantasy adventure.

Thundercats: Has a strange (in a good way) atmosphere and fun cast.

Dino-Riders: Short-lived, but fun dinosaur adventure.

These last two straddle the eighties and nineties, but I'll include them on this list:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: This could give Sunbow a run for its money on the zany plots, and had relatable heroes, like Ghostbusters. It's also very funny.

Super Mario Brothers: Funny shorts that improved in both story and animation quality and became increasingly more faithful to the games as the series progressed (and since it was pretty cool to begin with...).

I have watched Bravestarr, but I have to say, it was just He-Man all...in the west. Not really amused. Silverhawks I also thought had already been done so *shrug* ThunderCats did remind me a little of He-Man...only with cats...and different funny phrases that it does get a yay.

And...i haven't see G.I.Joe or Transformers yet so i can't put them on the list yet.
