For your convenience, I thought I'd make this list of cartoons commonly mistaken as 80's cartoons.

Battle of the Planets
G-Force
Captain Planet
Jabberjaw
The Great Grape Ape
The Pirates of Dark Water
James Bond Jr.

Please note that these are not 80's cartoons. There are other sites out there that cover these.

I will add more as I notice questions coming in about them. If you wish to mention some more, please reply here.

I suppose that these were ones produced in other countries (Japan, I presume, for the most part), but not dubbed/aired until the 80's?

I am willing to include on the site any of the cartoons that, although they were produced and aired earlier in another language, were dubbed in English and released in the 80's. There are several, like Candy Candy and Mazinger-Z/Tranzor-Z.

BTW, where are you from, son goku?

Im form Guatemala just south from Mexico.


G-force was aired in the early 80s in my country as well as most of the cartoons y posted.

i lived in the united states as a child and now i live in my country so i know cartoons that were aired in both conuntries.

japan animated cartoons have gotten pupular since late 90s buy in latin-america they have been pupular sin the beggining.

lets just say that I have seen the best of both worlds Wink

This was a Spanish version, I take it? What was it named there? In what year was it first translated and aired in Spanish? I'm curious.

Nice. Anime's experiencing a big boom in the US, and now manga is becoming much more popular. Also, more companies are realizing that their audience usually wants accurate translations, and they're doing a much better job of it. Also, for DVDs, it's become common to offer both an English dub and a Japanese-language version with English subtitles on the same DVD.

there are actually 2 spanish versions of it, one is called " Eagle Riders" and the other one is called "Fuerza-G"

i dont remember the year... but i do remeber watching it when I was like 3 years old in 1981.

Ahh. Interesting.

I would love to start including other languages, but it's kinda hard to do, since I don't know the languages (except for Spanish, with a tiny bit of Italian, French, and Japanese). For now, I think I'll have to stick to English. Sad

so what would "speed racer" be? a 70s cartoon or an 80s cartoon? since the episodes of the series were dubbed into English in 1967

Looks like I've been wrong on G-Force for years. Other online references also had incorrect info, so when I went to verify my paper source, I was still seeing wrong info. I have found definitive references stating that Turner Broadcasting re-dubbed Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman (Science Ninja Team Gatchaman; previously dubbed in English as "Battle of the Planets") in 1986. All other sources were stating 1995. I apologize for the incorrect info and will add G-Force to the site as soon as possible.
