My pre-orders for a couple of the Marvel DVDs never got dispatched and I've just checked www.spider-friends.com and all the ones that haven't already been released have been cancelled and the company involved has closed their UK branch although they may still release them from their US office as they still have the rights.

Have to say I'm majorly disappointed by this! Was looking to get all the different Marvel cartoons including the 80's Spiderman and his Amazing Friends but also the 90's X-Men cartoon was going to be released (the first season made it I think) and they had planned to start releasing the 90's Spiderman cartoon next year too!

Big time dissapointment. Slightly pissed that the official website hasn't got a notice on it and that they didn't send an email to the people who have subscribed to their newsletter.

Also gotta feel bad for the people who've lost their jobs. I got the Hulk 1966 DVD and it was pretty good so they were obviously doing a good job

Yeah, bad news on the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends DVDs- not to mention all the Marvel properties that Liberation Entertainment was releasing. I saw this a while back and hadn't had a chance to note it here, but I see jbmb2000 got it covered.
Well, at least Season 1 of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends did indeed get released, so I would suggest snatching that up off the shelves if you live in the UK or hurry up and get an order in with Amazon.co.uk
And you can always check Ebay- I'm sure it'll turn up there soon enough.
Remember though- Liberation Entertainment's UK branch has closed- BUT the US branch is still in business and may possibly pick up where the Marvel shows were left off and continue releasing them on DVD in the UK and maybe even in the USA eventually.

We may be in luck. It looks like a different company, Revelation Studios, has picked up the rights to the Marvel cartoons for R2 and are planning to release them. That was quick!

I reckon it'll be a few months before we actually get any releases as they'll probably have to redo everything from the ground up but at least it looks like they will be coming out *fingers crossed*

It looks like we might not have to wait for them do refo everything as a number of the releases (including Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends and some which weren't due to be released till next year) are up for preorder for this month! Woohoo!

Well, if Wikipedia is to be believed, it looks the 1981 Spider-Man series (sans his Amazing Friends ) is to be released on DVD in the summer of 2010 in Region 2 by Clear Vision.
While it is hard to trust the veracity of Wikipedia, I am inclined to think this may well be true because Clear Vision has been busy releasing a number of Marvel cartoons in the UK last year (including Spider-Man [90s FOX series], Spider-Man [60s], X-Men [90s], The Fantastic Four [90s], Silver Surfer and Spider-Woman.)
-Basically picking up where Liberation left off. So hopefully soon one more classic '80s cartoon will be available on DVD! Courtesy your friendly neighborhood overseas DVD distribution label.
